Carson's Fishing Adventure

Yesterday Carson had his first fishing experience. There is a pond in our neighborhood and the boys went down to see if they could catch some fish. I just love this video - Carson is so sweet trying to get everything going.

He looks like a true fisherman....I see lots of fishing trips w/ daddy in the future!

Why?

This is Carson's new favorite word - apparently starting today. We all remember when our parents would say "because" or "because I said so"...well, we are there!

I have to admit, I may be to blame for this one. When he's talking to me, often times I ask him 'why' - just trying to get him to think and see if he can come up with an answer. Guess it back fired on me. Oh well...

Reading at night

Let me start by saying I really hope we do a good job of reading to the newest addition once she arrives but I've heard that goes away w/ the second one...we'll see.

Right now, we do a good job w/ Carson - we read a few books every night before we go to bed. And, as you can imagine, it's usually the same books again and again. The latest have been "The night before Christmas" and "Buzzy's big bedtime book". The other night Carson wanted to read Buzzy so we opened it up and he said, "Carson read." Umm, ok....go for it!

I sat back and he "read" the entire book to me! We've read it so many times that he has it memorized! It is so cute...and makes me realize he's growing up so quickly too. Sure makes me a proud mommy!

Thank goodness we didn't get a bunk bed

He's all boy!!

Big Boy Bed

Carson has finally graduated into a big boy bed! This has happened for a few reasons:
1. His little sister needs a bed when she arrives
2. He's getting to big for his crib
3. For the love, he's almost 3....we should have done this a long time ago  :)

I'll be the first to admit, we probably kept him in his crib way too long but he never tried crawling out of it and he still fit in it - I guess my thinking was, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

But, since sissy is coming in a few months (that's what we call her right now since poor little girl still doesn't have a name) we figured we should get started on sleeping in a big boy bed. We've been looking for awhile - waiting to find that perfect bed! I don't know why we put so much effort into, I have to remind myself that he's going to scratch it, color on it, break it, etc. But, we finally found the right bed for him.

I snuck into his room to get some pics of his last night in his crib. Oh my, I was almost in tears seeing him in that crib.....my little baby is growing up so fast and no longer a baby boy. I remember his first nights in that crib - he was just so tiny, fragile, innocent. I know people say they grow up fast but I don't think we realize it until a big step like this takes place.

I love that he still sucks his thumb.... :)

And, now here's a picture of his first nap in his BIG BOY BED! I honestly don't think we could get one more blanket or one more stuffed animal in there with him! haha

We are still in the process of getting bedding, painting, hanging pictures, etc. We've been holding off since we knew a big boy bed was on it's way soon. So, let that fun decision making process start! ha

I think someone likes there new bed!!

It needs batteries

This has been the theme in our house as of late. If Carson can't get something to work right away, it must need batteries. I swear, everything that needs batteries in this house has died over the past 2 weeks. So, my logical response is, it needs batteries. I guess Carson has picked this up from me, so now that's his answer to everything...and with that, most of the time he's right!

And, I've also learned that if I can't get something to work, I immediately yell out, "Boss!" (that's Greg's pet name).

Last week, Carson and I were getting ready for bed, when he learned that his guitar wasn't working. We both quickly decided that it needed....you guessed it, batteries! He immediately opened his bedroom door and yelled, "Boss, we need batteries!" I was cracking up...but he was right! And in came daddy to the rescue.

So, we've decided if something doesn't work:
1. It probably needs batteries
2. Holler for boss/daddy
3. Daddy can fix anything

Problem solved!

Big boy underwear and pee pee

Seeing that Carson is nearing 3 years old, we figured it's probably time to work on potty training. (I say this w/ some sarcasm since I originally had the mindset that he would be potty trained at 2)

He's known how to pee pee on the big boy potty since we lived in LA but it wasn't anything we really pushed on him. If he went, we celebrated and he got a sticker but that was about it. I think part of it was we were both terrified to start that journey - it sounded horrible....I mean they sell books on how to potty train your kid, that must mean it's really hard to do. So we did what any logical person would do, we avoided it. :)

But, about a month ago, Greg was at the gym and they paged him to come to the child care center (which of course makes me panic immediately). He got there and they said Carson had to go potty (guess he told the teacher he had to go). As you can imagine, Greg was confused because Carson was wearing a diaper. So, he took him in the bathroom (his diaper was dry), sat him on the potty and he went! This was our sign....it's time to start potty training. So we bought some big boy underwear and went for it!

He had a couple of small accidents at the house but nothing horrible. Now he tells us whenever he needs to go and it seems like he's always been going in the potty. We're still wearing a night diaper and I don't see that ending anytime soon. That thing is soaked in the mornings!

We will take this as a huge win for the little guy! He's doing so good and his little bunnies (as I call them) look so cute in his Buzz Lightyear underwear!

3 + 1 = 4

You gotta love simple math...adding baby #2 will make this family, a family of 4! That's right, we are so excited to be welcoming baby #2 this summer (July 3rd to be exact). And, we found out we're having a.....G-I-R-L!!! As I write this, I am 24 weeks pregnant. I should have posted this a long time ago but there's this thing called life that seems to take over sometimes. :)

We are so excited to have a little girl in the mix. I'm not sure if Carson fully understands just yet but we talk about sissy all the time and how he's going to be such a big help w/ feeding her, changing her diapers, and teaching her all sorts of new things. The conversations always ends w/ him saying, "she's gonna cry a lot." Guess he's seen a few babies around and all they do is cry! ha I tell him, "yes, she's going to cry but you can just tell her it's going to be ok." So far he seems to agree w/ this approach....we'll see how it works out when she actually arrives...and cries...for real.

You know that gut feeling you get sometimes as a mother, when you just know that something is....well, it just is. I had that when I found out I was pregnant - I just knew it was a girl....100%, nobody could tell me differently, I knew. But about 2 weeks before we went to the doctor to find out, I somehow convinced myself we were having another boy - I switched camps, no doubt about it, I was going to be the only female in the house....you get the point. So, the 3 of us headed to the doctor to find out what we were having. First of all, everything measured perfectly and healthy (thank you Lord) and then the dr said, "Carson, you're going to have a little.....sister!" Greg and I just looked at each other and said, "what??" I started cracking up - I should have stuck w/ my gut!

The rest of the day we were both is shock - for me, I immediately fast forwarded to her being 15, hormones, boys, her not liking me (because I'm her mother), drama and hormones (did I already mention that?!). For Greg, I think his shock came from her being a girl. :) I think everything father is scared to death when they first find out they're having a girl. I'm sure there's many reasons why they panic but I have an idea it has to do w/ when they were younger and how they thought about girls or treated girls. :)

Here's our first picture of the little princess.

And, before anybody asks, no we do not have a name yet. :) We've tossed around a few names but nothing has stuck . Who knows, it may turn out like it did w/ Carson, we decided on his name about 20 minutes before he joined this world!
